Day 5, May 22
Our route on relive: https://www.relive.cc/view/vLqeeKxG4Rq
Great campsite last night. We took a vote at camp and have so rated it as the number one camp spot on the trip. Northside Campground in California, be sure to check it out..
I slept to 5am, topless as well (no cover over netting on tent), amazing stars, and not as cold as I thought. Up by 6am Howard gets up and we slowly start breaking camp in the beautiful calm of the morning. Woodpeckers pecking along, we saw a deer the night before.
Leaving camp I take a left, Oops we go about 20 miles in the wrong direction but what a beautiful direction. I drive over this dam and we decide to turn back as we have no internet so can't check directions. Not a problem and we head up hwy 97 taking us west of Mount Shasta. Stunning drive but as we chat, we realize at the same time we have tire problems, big orange triangle on the dash, and a tire indicator showing problems. Both of us at the same time, is most curious. We pull over and check each of our tires, no giant nails showing. We continue and stop at a mall off the highway and take a tire guage to the tires, finding both in spec. We figure they are OK and continue. I have a warning my front tire is out of spec and at 85psi not 36psi. Tire Guage showed 35, so must be a computer issue. Darned electronics...
Driving on, we continue chatting, but the both of us realize wow, bloody cold! We pull over and jacket it up to for warmth. Low and behold, to our right is snow capped mount shasta, and we are at 4200 foot elevation, it is cold as we continue to three sisters oregon and still at 3100 ft elevation it is very cold out. We stop at a camp site that Bob has reserved, low and behold he shows up with a box of voodoo donughts, yum!
With Bob on site, we clean up and check our campsite and find we are golden for tonight. Locking up the bikes we go on tour with Bob, house hunting. Beautiful area and nice houses. Dinner at three sisters pub is great food and fun stories.
we are now back at camp, we setup tent. Vic comes over and we have a nice chat. He has a Mercedes camper 4x4 van next to us and we chat. He and his wife ride 2 up on a gsa bike around Oregon. We talk further and find that he rebuilds old bmw bikes and showed me a picture of a 1968 bmw r60 I think. I tell him I used to have a 1974 r75/6 bike. We then find we both know Chris in spokan, a really cool bmw guy. Swapping stories, we part.
Well it is now 1027pm, and I'm pooped. It is expected to be 33f by morning time. Nancy texts us a time they slept in a Subaru in canada.
Tomorrow we ride
and visit Kawika in Rosyln.
